Interesting Indian Kitchen Hacks



    Dear readers
    In Indian kitchen we prepare daily meals for the family which gives immense happiness and develop bonding without in family. As working women, we often struggle to manage our jobs and household responsibilities, so cooking becomes difficult task. To make Indian cooking easier, here I am sharing kitchen hacks to make cooking enjoyable and little easier.
    Ø To prevent potatoes from turning to brown
    Keep diced potatoes in cold water with some salt before cooking to prevent it from turning that gross greyish/brown.

    Ø Fast cooking of veggies
    Add some salt to curry or veggies so they will cook faster as the watery content among them will come out.


    Ø Storing tomatoes for long duration
    To Store tomatoes for longer time keep stem end down to prevent rotting. 

    Ø Storage of Banana
    ·        Storing Banana for the longest time, wrap the end of the bunch of banana with aluminum foil, they will last longer.
      
                                       

    Ø The trick for the boiling of Milk
    • Moisten the base of a vessel with water before boiling milk. To avoid milk sticking at the bottom.
    • Add half of teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate to milk while boiling. This will prevent milk from spoiling especially in summer.
    • Keep a wooden spoon on top of the vessel to prevent the milk from spilling.

    Ø To prepare soft roti’s knead the dough with some milk   .
    Ø Keep puri flare in the fridge for 10-15 minutes before frying to avoid excessive absorption of oil.
    Ø Grind some common salt in your mixer or grinder to sharpen the blades.
    Ø To make mutton soft
    ·        Add some mashed raw papaya or teaspoon of vinegar to marinate the mutton to make it soft. 
    Ø During cooking if lady finger are sticking together then just add a few drops of lemon juice. 
    Ø Don't keep potatoes and onions together as Potatoes will rot very soon, keep them in different bags.
    Ø Keep paneer in blotting paper before you refrigerate them and boil it before using it became soft.
    Ø To prevent fungus from accumulating in the pickle jar, smoke your jar with burning fumes of asafetida.
    Ø While preventing insects in rice storage, keep a small paper packet of boric powder or mint leaves in the container. This will keep insects and moths at bay.
    Ø While storing sugar, make sure to add two to three cloves to the container. This will prevent ants from sticking to the jar or even getting attracted to the sugary smell.
    Ø Place overripe tomatoes in cold water and add some salt to the vessel. This will make them fresh and firm the next morning. You can then peel the tomatoes by placing them in warm water for five to 10 minutes types.
    Ø  Use a hot knife to slice cake perfectly.  
    Ø Keep extra minced or chopped garlic fresh by covering it with olive oil and storing it in the refrigerator in an airtight container. It will keep for up to one week.
    Ø Keep dried black pepper or bay leaf placed inside the jar or storage container to Discourage bugs from camping out in your dried beans and grains.
                          
    Ø Place your lemons or other citrus fruit in hot water or in the microwave for 10-15 seconds to warm them, then roll them back and forth under your hand on the counter a few times before cutting in half and juicing.
    Ø Mix vinegar and water and then microwave the solution for few minutes. The steam will loosen tough food ready for you to wipe clean.
    Ø Skim the fat-
    ·        Put few ice cube in milk to excess out fat. The ice helps the fat solidify, making it easier to remove.
    Ø Peel citrus fruits without the mess
    To avoid the mess and frustration, roll citrus fruits and/or microwave them for a minute for easy peeling.
    Ø Make eggshell removal even easier
    Ø Add baking soda or vinegar to water when boiling eggs for easier shell removal.
    Ø Make cheese grating easier and less messy
    ·        Before grating semisoft cheeses freezing it for about 30 minutes.
    Ø Cut the (soft) cheese with ease
    ·        Slice soft cheeses with dental floss for smooth slicing.
    Ø Prevent onions from making you weep
    ·        To stop onion-induced tears, freeze the onion before chopping.
    Ø Reheat pizza and other baked goods without drying them out
    ·        When reheating pizza or baked goods, place a cup of water in the microwave with it to add moisture to the air (therefore keeping the food from drying out).
    Ø Chill wine and cocktails without diluting
    ·        Cool down a fresh glass of wine or a fancy cocktail by plopping a few frozen grapes in your glass.
    Ø Extend nuts’ shelf life
    ·        Freeze shelled nuts to preserve their natural oils (which may go rancid at room temperature over time).
    Ø Make an electric kettle glimmer
    ·        To make electrical kettle or utensil shimmer and shine , scrub them with one part vinegar to one part water. If there are no electrical elements to what you’re cleaning, go ahead and soak the metal in the solution, or fill a kettle with the vinegar water and let it sit overnight.
